English Civil War Artillery Reinforcements

By Michael Cannon / March 30, 2013

Another two batteries join the English Civil War armies being mustered.

I have mounted these in a different way than my others. Before Games Workshop killed off Warhammer Historical Wargames, I had planned on using the rules exclusively and so my initial units have been mounted individually. I will now use the Pike and Shotte rules for my ECW/30YW gaming but want to leave the door open for both sets of rules.

These batteries have been mounted on Styrene cut with slots for 20 by 20 mm magnetized bases. The guns have a small piece of styrene under the front wheels so I can have them attached to limbers if need be. I used cast off vinyl magnet for the bases and paper steel for the movement trays. I am not that impressed with how the magnets hold and so will probably revert back to using GF9 bases in the future. The cost is greater but the bases are proportionately better.

I have been wargaming as long as I can remember. I met my wife when I was 14 and had been gaming long before that so that should give you an indication as to how long it has been. One of the first games I owned was Anzio by Avalon Hill. I drove over to the hobby shop in the snow to pick it up as I finally had the money to get something! I can remember playing with Airfix figures and Roco tanks back in the 6th grade and before.
