English Civil War Artillery – The Final Batteries

It’s always satisfying to come to the completion of part of a project. These are the last four batteris for my Pike and Shotte and Paratime armies.

The blue batteries are a medium and light gun and the red are heavy guns. The number of crew on each stand indicates which type in case my eyes get bad enough that I can’t tell.

Normally I mount my crewmen individually but I am using a magnetic storage system now and the guns are hard to magnetize where they look good so I have gone retro with my basing for them.

Several people have asked me about the mat I am using here. This is a test for a larger size mat that I want to make. I got a dropcloth from Lowe’s or Home Depot that had a plastic backing, used acrylic latex dyed a light brown, then added Woodland Scenic grass. The reason I have not made the larger mat yet is because I want to make sure the materials stay on before I commit to a larger size.

I have been wargaming as long as I can remember. I met my wife when I was 14 and had been gaming long before that so that should give you an indication as to how long it has been. One of the first games I owned was Anzio by Avalon Hill. I drove over to the hobby shop in the snow to pick it up as I finally had the money to get something! I can remember playing with Airfix figures and Roco tanks back in the 6th grade and before.
