How can one resist the uniforms this group wore? In theory, the uniform was adopted in honor of Loudon's service in the Russian army. I don't know if this is true or not. In June of 1757 Loudon's Frei Corps was "appeared and soon infested the main roads" following the battle of Kolin. (From Duffy, Frederick the Great, p. 459.)Here they fell on aPrussian party of some two hundred that was excorting Gen Manstein. In the skirmish that followed, the Frei Corps killed Manstein. Good fodder for a small OSW battle!
