“Any anti-Zulu medicine a future enemy clan might want to prepare would have to be based on Shaka's inSila, or "dirt"—which ranged from excreta to fingernail parings—so a whole series of attendants was appointed to deal with it. The Royal Barber, who paid with his life for the slightest nick in the royal chin, had daily to collect the shaven stubble, burn it, and scatter the ashes in a river. There was also a Receiver of the Royal Spittle (his back served as a receptacle), and even a Wiper of the Royal Anus.”

I have been looking for a set of rules which I can use for gaming naval actions in the 17-1800 age of sail period and I think I may have found them - Grand Fleet Actions in the Age of Sail by Alan Butler and published by A&A Game Engineering.
Last weekend I had the opportunity to play in a Trafalgar game with my son and five other men at one of the local hobby shops (GAJO Games). There were approximately sixty 1/2400 scale ships on a table about five feet by six feet. The 1/2400 ships were made by Figurehead and involved ships of the line and frigates on both sides. We came to a conclusion in four hours (having started with seven people who did not know the rules but an umpire who did.)

Just a quick announcement.... I was renewing domains today and discovered that as of April 7, this site hit its 10 year anniversary! It's gone through several different forms - a static website, a blog, and now in Joomla format - but has long been a place where I have recorded many of my wargaming memories. When I think of all that has happened in that 10 years, all I can say is...WOW!
